The purpose of this site is to stimulate analysis and discussion of the ideas of Abdol Karim Soroush on various aspects of religious thought, particularly from an Islamic perspective. It is intended primarily for the benefit of students and researchers in this field, as well as others with a general interest in the subject.
Preparation and maintenance of the homepage takes considerable amount of time and effort and we rely on voluntary contribution of individuals to keep it running and up-to-date. If you are interested in playing a part, here is a list of possible ways in which you can help Seraj:
Send relevant articles: If you come across an interesting article or academic paper which is related to the subject of this site, please send it to us so that it can be added to the homepage. We prefer to receive these in electronic form via e-mail, but if that is a problem, you can post the hard copy to us at the address shown below.
News and information: If you happen to know of an event, speech, lecture, seminar, etc. by or about Dr Soroush, or if you have any other news that is relevant, whether from inside or outside Iran, please share it with us, quoting the source where possible, and providing brief details.
Your own contribution: If you are a researcher or journalist and have written a paper, article, analysis, etc. on this subject, we would be pleased to include it on the homepage. If you wish we can also include your e-mail address on the page so that you can receive direct feedback from other researchers in this field who will be reading your work.
Publicize Seraj: If you know of other people who might be interested, please let them know about Seraj Homepage. If you are a member of a relevant news or discussion group, you could inform everyone about Seraj by simply sending a short e-mail. Most important of all, if you are in charge of a homepage, know someone who is, or just happen to come across a page that is about Islam or Iran or other related topics, you can help widen the readership by adding a hotlink to Seraj, or asking the webmaster to do so.
Translation: The main obstacle in providing an international audience with access to Dr Soroush's ideas is the problem of language. So far the writings of Dr Soroush have been published almost exclusively in Persian. That is why we are looking for competent individuals who can help us provide some of the material in English. If you have a good command of both English and Persian, are reasonably familiar with the underlying thoughts in Dr Soroush's writings, and are willing to devote some time to translating one or two pieces of his work, we would be very pleased to hear from you.
Also, if anyone is interested to undertake such translation work in a language other than English, for example Arabic, please do get in touch with us.
